IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA - SEASONS 1 & 2
Finally started watching this oft-quoted-by-Kluv series. The first season, while funny, feels a bit like… well, like a first season. Each episode’s topic seems a little too on-the-nose for shock value: racism, abortion, cancer, kid touching. That’s not to say that the shows aren’t hilarious - they are - but that the first season is finding its voice a bit too obviously.
The second season, and the show as a whole, really finds its stride in Charlie’s brilliant multi-phase plan featured in “Mac Bangs Dennis’ Mom”. Excellent story, and everyone’s on their game.
I have to say, though, that while I understand why having Dee and Dennis’ dad on the show can add potential plot-lines, Danny DeVito just feels out of place for me. Maybe it’s because I was happy with the foursome that started the series. Maybe it’s because I just don’t feel that DeVito is keeping up with the other four as well as he could.
